Radio Station Logo Designs Explanation - Mixx

Process

To design this logo, I used Photoshop. Whilst using Photoshop, I was able to use the shape tools, custom shape tools, a range of colours and fonts to construct my design. I had a wide variety of fonts to chose from, however I decided to create the letters MIXX with different shapes using the shape tools. A combination of coloured rectangles, squares and triangles make up the font for my logo. To create the 'M', I used the shape tool to produce a rectangle, and then the custom shape tool to create a triangle that acts as the indent in the letter. I used the shape tools to create the letter 'I'. I used the pen tool in order to draw the outline of the letter, saved the shape under the 'custom shape' category and used the shift key to draw the shape in proportion. Similarly to the letter 'M', I used the shape tool to draw a square and the custom shape tool to draw four triangles in order to create the two 'X' characters. Before I created the letters, I used the shape tool to draw two circles, one orange and one, smaller, white circle so as to create the orange boarder.

Decisions

I made the decision to stick to my hand-drawn designs as much as I could and attempt to keep the design looking the same. I think overall I was successful, the orange colours stand out and are positively noticeable and I think the use of the shapes and combinations of the shapes were a good representation of my hand drawn designs.

Revisions

I made no revisions to my hand drawn designs whilst creating them of Photoshop. I was unsure of colours at first, having to decide between keeping the colours orange and white or changing them to pink and white. I kept the colour scheme the same as I decided it was a more rounded colour scheme and would prevent any of the listeners of the radio feeling as if the station was directed more strongly at females than males as pink is a stereotypical colour. For a future design, I may include two small triangle at the bottom of the M in order to enhance the look of the letter.

What went well?

I think the design as a whole went well as it has a very strong liking to my hand drawn designs. The creation of the shape and the size of the circles are accurate and the thickness of the orange boarder is of good size.

Even better if?

I think my design would be even better if the point of the 'I' was a perfect point. I may go back to my design on Photoshop and incorporate a triangle at the top of the I instead of the free hand, pen tool drawing on the computer.
